How churches can partner on homelessness in San Bernardino County

Most churches already help people in need. The San Bernardino Faith-Based Network exists so they don't do it alone, sharing resources, referrals, and relationships in support of the county's plan to end homelessness.

What the network is

The San Bernardino Faith-Based Network is a collaborative of churches, ministries, and agencies serving the Inland Empire and beyond, convened by CityWay CEDC and The Way World Outreach. Its mission is to build strong relationships and share wisdom, resources, and knowledge through a foundation of Christian values, in support of the San Bernardino County strategic plan to end homelessness and to expand resources for families and individuals in need.

Why partner instead of going it alone

A single congregation might run a food pantry or a clothing closet. Another runs recovery groups; an agency down the street has housing navigators. When those groups know each other, a person who walks into one door can be referred to the help they actually need.

The network's stated values include strengthening relationships between faith-based and public agencies, respectful communication among members, and serving people with compassion.

What happens at a luncheon

Network luncheons follow a simple flow: welcome and prayer, introductions, lunch with time to connect and share, a special focus or speaker, announcements and flyers, one-to-one information gathering, and a closing prayer, with more time to connect afterward.

How to get involved

  • Register your church, ministry, or agency on the Faith-Based Network page. CityWay follows up with the date, location, and speaker for the next luncheon.
  • Bring flyers for the services you offer, and come ready to meet other leaders one to one.
  • For people who need help right now, Inland SoCal 211 is a 24/7 starting point in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
