What community economic development means in San Bernardino

"Community economic development" can sound abstract. At CityWay it means five concrete pillars working together so people are developed, businesses are supported, and communities are transformed.

The idea

CityWay CEDC was established by The Way World Outreach to advance community and economic development in inner cities. Its founders describe a common problem in most inner cities of the world, poverty, and a commitment to collective action to solve it. CityWay's model: people are developed, businesses are supported, and communities are transformed.

Five pillars

  • Employment: career pathways and workforce development, like the August 2026 job fair with 35 employers and 32 resource partners.
  • Education: practical, faith-rooted learning for entrepreneurs, families, and the next generation, including KidsWay Christian Academy & Preschool.
  • Community: connecting neighbors, churches, and employers, including the San Bernardino Faith-Based Network.
  • Economic Development: sustainable, financially responsible models that move neighborhoods forward.
  • Entrepreneurial: decades of business experience poured into founders building from the ground up.

Why it's one organization

A job is easier to keep when childcare is handled. A small business grows faster when local churches and employers know it exists. A person leaving hardship needs work, community, and a path forward at the same time. CityWay's pillars are meant to reinforce each other rather than run as separate programs.

How to be part of it
