What a CityWay job fair looks like
CityWay's August 13, 2026 Job Fair, Community Resource Fair, and Mobile Court brought 35 employers and 32 community resource partners to The Way World Outreach on Hallmark Parkway in San Bernardino. Employers ranged from staffing firms and healthcare to logistics, county government, banking, security, and the trades, and they met candidates face to face instead of through an online portal.
The day was built around a simple idea from the recap: a resume is hard to hand over when you don't have a shirt to wear, a way to clear an old record, or a ride to the interview. So the fair also offered record expungement help through a mobile court, free professional clothing, free haircuts, and lunch for every attendee.
Before you go
- Print several copies of a one-page resume. Employers at a fair talk to a lot of people; a page they can keep matters.
- Write down two or three kinds of work you want. With dozens of tables, knowing what you are looking for lets you start with the employers that fit.
- Practice a 30-second introduction: your name, the work you want, and one thing you've done that shows you can do it.
- If you need help building a resume, CareerOneStop from the U.S. Department of Labor and California's CalJOBS both have free tools, and San Bernardino County Workforce Development offers local job services.
On the day
- Arrive early, when employers are fresh and lines are short.
- Walk the room once before you stop. Note which tables are hiring for the work you want.
- Visit the resource partners too. At CityWay's fair they included county agencies and community organizations that help with the things around a job: clothing, records, housing, and more.
- Ask each employer how to follow up, and write the name of the person you spoke with on the back of their card or flyer.
If an old record is in the way
Many applications stop at the background question. At the August 2026 fair, a mobile court operated on site so neighbors could begin clearing a record the same day they applied for work. Whether that's offered next time will be posted on CityWay's Events page. The California courts also publish free self-help steps; see our guide to clearing a record in California.
After the fair
- Follow up within two days with every employer you liked: a short email or call naming the event and the job.
- Keep a simple list of who you met, what they hire for, and when you followed up.
- Watch CityWay's Events page and social accounts (@citywaycedc) for the next fair.
